Johnson Still Out-of-Touch With What Everyday Citizens Need
‘State of Secretary of State’ a lot of Talk, But Little Action

LANSING – Secretary of State Ruth Johnson may talk a good game, but she’s hardly backing it up. Today’s “State of the Secretary of State” speech was nothing more than a lot of promises with very little substance.

“Ruth Johnson is proving how out-of-touch she is with the needs of everyday citizens,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer said. “People don’t need checklists and task forces – they need real reforms that will save taxpayers money.”

“Not once did Ruth Johnson say she would eliminate the driver’s responsibility fee – which is an unfair tax to drivers,” continued Brewer. “And what about campaign finance reform? What about stopping shadowy organizations from funding campaigns like the ones that funded hers in 2010? We need real reforms, not rhetoric.”

“If we really want to get serious about reforming our Department of State, then we need to makes things easier for everyday people,” said Jocelyn Benson, former Democratic candidate for Secretary of State. “We need to eliminate wait times at branch offices by allowing citizens to schedule appointments. We need to modernize our voter registration by allowing voters serving in the military to register online. We need real reform in Lansing.”
