Benishek and Sessions Hold Fundraiser in Traverse City for Their Extreme GOP Agenda
GOP Congressmen Want to End Medicare, Privatize Social Security

LANSING – Michigan Republican Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-1) is bringing in his radical GOP colleague, Congressman Pete Sessions, to help raise money for his campaign and his extreme agenda which includes ending Medicare as we know it, and privatizing Social Security.

Benishek and Sessions both voted for the Paul Ryan GOP Budget in Congress which, according to the Wall Street Journal (4/4/11), “would essentially end Medicare, which now pays most of the health care bills for 48 million elderly and disabled Americans.”

“Dan Benishek and Pete Sessions are out-of-touch when it comes to Michigan’s 1st Congressional District,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer said. “Many of Benishek’s constituents are retirees who rely on Medicare and Social Security. He has voted against the interest of his district time and again and we will hold him accountable in 2012.”

“Benishek and Sessions are yet another example of Republican hypocrisy,” added Brewer. “They’re trying to raise money in a rural district after both voted to end rural airport service (HR 658, Vote #220, 4/1/11), and Sessions is busy preaching family values to the extreme right-wing of his Party while holding fundraisers at strip clubs. These are not the type of people we need in Congress.”

In March 2007, Sessions held a fundraiser at a Las Vegas strip club and reportedly spent $5,000 at the club and $2,100 on his hotel room that evening.
